About LILAC at Oberlin

LILAC serves two purposes for students at Oberlin College. Our first mission is to cultivate a welcoming space for transgender* individuals. Our second mission is to advocate for trans rights and strike down gender oppression at Oberlin College and in the local community.

We hold weekly meetings where members can hold a discussion about a topic relating to the experience of being transgender. Cisgendered individuals are welcome as well, but are asked to leave adequate space for trans members to speak on their experiences, and to come with an open mind.

In addition to consistent meetings, we hold various events around campus to cultivate our community, including but not limited to movie nights, makers markets, and trans-friendly open swim hours. You can find our calendar of events here.

* Referring to anyone who self-identifies as transgender or any identity that aligns with it.

Our History

LILAC was initially a Facebook group created in 2016, then called "TAG:Lilac". "Lilac at Oberlin", our Discord server, was created in 2020 to keep group members in contact after campus shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We appreciate every member and officer that has kept LILAC running throughout the years.
